Do you think it’s true that clothes make the person? We at Alaafia Kids believe that there’s some truth to this, even for children. So we are offering African-style clothes in a wide variety of colors and prints for infants, toddlers, and young children. The unusual designs and bright multi-colored patterns look fabulous against any shade of skin! In fact, we think that these clothes will look great on any child, whether African American, Euro-American, Asian American, or Hispanic American, to name just a few!

Our clothes are ready to be worn by your Alaafia Kids, allowing them to foster their identities as very special people! They are sure to make Alaafia Kids feel special and help them remember and be proud of their diversity and heritage. We know this is true because our own Alaafia Kids tell us so every time they wear their African clothes!

Hand-Crafted in Africa
These clothes are handmade by a Beninese, in fact, our very own family tailor. Click here to find out where Benin is in the Motherland. Malik’s sister, Jamila, carefully selected the prints herself in a huge African cloth market. These are some of the most popular prints in West Africa, all 100% cotton. They are also of the highest quality. They are called “Super Wax.” Jamila also specified how the detailed embroidery should look. You can be sure that the outfit you choose has been custom-designed and handmade with the utmost care! You can’t find clothes like this anywhere else but in Africa.

Because these clothes are very roomy and comfortable to wear with lots of room to grow into, one outfit may fit a child for two or three years. Sizing is only approximate. We have indicated in the item descriptions the lengths and widths of all clothes and have made approximations to United States sizing. Please call or email us if you have any questions!

Also note that there may be slight variations in the embroidery patterns from those that you see here. The exact measurements of the outfit you receive may vary slightly, (by an inch or two), from those listed here, but since these outfits are made to be worn to look oversized, it really won’t make a big difference; our daughter has worn the same-sized outfit for over two years! Please keep in mind that our tailor is human, too! We also have tried to describe the outfits as thoroughly as possible so rest assured that the following descriptions are very accurate. Also note that the skirts and pants are pictured as folded; the exact measurements of these items are given in the item descriptions.

Three-Season Clothes
These clothes are great to wear in spring and summer. They can also be worn on warm fall days. An undershirt or shorts may provide the added warmth needed on chilly days. On our homepage and pictured here on the right, you can see our son wearing a yellow turtleneck under an African outfit, named Leaves, Leaves, and Leaves. Our daughter is wearing an outfit called Spring Mandala on a cool spring day. Wouldn’t you agree that they look absolutely smashing?

In the picture on the left, our son is wearing 3-D Squares and our daughter is again in Spring Mandala, her favorite outfit of all! It is a warm spring day so both are very comfortable wearing only their roomy African clothes.

Don’t see your child’s size in the fabric print that you just adore? Or maybe you have another style in mind all together? If you find a print that you would like in a style or size other than that which you see it in, please call or email us! We may have it, or can certainly get it for you! We will special order it from Benin for you. (Please allow 6-8 weeks for delivery.)

Caring for Your Clothes
To maintain these clothes in great quality, we recommend handwashing only in cold water with a mild soap. Line dry and use a cool iron if desired.
