This is one of our favorite prints because it combines three of our favorite things into one design! There are apple shapes with walnut-shaped leaves set in a flower arrangement. The predominant colors are light blue, navy blue, and bright green. The apples are bright green with a few thin, wavy navy lines running throughout. Alternating apples have an orange “splattered” background. The walnut leaves are navy blue. The background of the flowers is filled with light blue dots on navy arranged to form navy diamonds with white center circles. This is a classic West African print; I remember seeing it all over West Africa when I lived there in the early 1990s. We call it “Bluebird” because of the flying bluebird in emerald green ovals all over the print. There are navy blue vertical lines of different widths running in an orange and white, “splattered” background. The top is smocked, getting wider as you go from shoulder to waist. It goes on over the head. The collar is a curved, V-necked shape outlined in light blue embroidery that consists of an interlocking, diamond-shaped pattern. This fabric is covered with rows of bottle shapes alternating rightside up and upside down. The bottles are on a navy blue background. One row of bottles has the same design composed of circles outlined with white dots and one white dot in the center of each circle. The entire bottle is outlined in white. Product Description:
This print consists of a large circle on a pedestal, thus the name “Crystal Ball.” (Although when my daughter saw it, she called it “ladybug” and I guess it does look like a ladybug depending on your perspective!) There are two circles with different patterns, one containing a navy blue design that gets more crowded as you go across the circle. The other contains the same design but has some olive green in the background as well as turquoise. The squiggly pedestal is medium blue. There is a large medium blue ribbon running across the fabric on a bronze and white “splattered” backdrop with small navy blue dots running all over it. The collar is square with emerald green loops around the outside border as well as on the sleeve borders. The over-the-head top is full, getting fuller as you go from shoulder to waist. The top of the crystal ball print also comes in a second style than the one shown with the skirt. The second style flares slightly at the waist as do the longer, wing-like sleeves.
